THE BUSINESS
Proudly turning 150 Years Old in 2020, Tradelink takes centre stage as Australia’s oldest plumbing merchants, operating as part of the publicly listed Fletcher Building Group.
The Objectives
Whilst considerable financial investment has been made in modernising and expanding their portfolio of close to 300 retail stores and showrooms, the executive team saw significant opportunity lying dormant in its underinvested digital channel. Coupled with the fact that their direct competitors such as Bunnings, Reece and Bathroom Warehouse had invested significantly in the digital space, Tradelink jumped at the opportunity to reinvigorate their B2C online offering, moving from an outdated site that was merely a static presence (not transactional) to a feature rich, fully transactional, omni-channel website in 26 weeks.
The challenge for it works and Tradelink was to; 1) stand up a full omni-channel website 2) within a tightly controlled budget 3) to launch before peak trade 4) in under 26 weeks. The “extended” challenge was to successfully manage a significant amount of internal business change in the context of People and Process that would come from standing up an omni-channel solution including; 1) leading the up skilling and adding new capability (team), and 2) leading the reengineering of existing / designing new business processes to support the successful running of an omni-channel website including order fulfilment, product lifecycle management, and pricing and stock management.
it works had just completed two successful engagements; 1) the provision of consulting services in conducting a full Discovery, Assessment and Strategy review of the e-commerce channel and 2) drove a robust Platform and Partner Selection process. As a result of the successes achieved, both the Tradelink Executive and Fletcher Building Group Executive agreed to engage it works to lead the programme of change.

The Outcome
In under 26 weeks, the it works x Tradelink partnership was able to stand up a fully operational omni-channel e-commerce solution that went live, on time, to budget and to scope.
Deliverables by it works included:
Deliver a fully functioning omni channel e-commerce site in 24 weeks
Establishment and maintenance of Project Governance and Project Management Controls, Steerco’s, working groups
Management of Project Budget, scope and all relevant documentation
Ensure that all key risks and issues are identified and managed effectively
Ensure key stakeholders expectations are consistently managed
Provision of Business Analysis (BA) services including Business Process Mapping, Data Architecture redesign and people capability up-skilling (training) services in order to deliver fully reengineered business processes to support B2C omni channel retailing
